TIME CORRECTION for March 7 and 21

Please find it in your heart to forgive me!!!!!

In the previous post from 02/28/10, I have incorrectly stated the times for our two rehearsals in March.

The CORRECT time is 2:00 - 5:00 PM. Please note this time change for the rehearsals. The rest of the information regarding these two regionals is correct.

March 7 or March 21?

I’m sure there are some puzzled folks about our two “regional” rehearsals coming up in March. We have two rehearsals scheduled in March - one at FVL on March 7 and one at KML on March 21. Both rehearsals will run from 1 - 5 PM.

Which one do you attend? Why are there two? Basically, there was not a Sunday in March when all schools were free. In fact, it was difficult to find even four schools that had the same free Sunday. Many schools have concerts in March, and the WELS Lutheran Band Festival also takes place in March. Therefore, we decided to try something new - a regional rehearsal.

At last count, FVL, WISCO, and LHS should be at the rehearsal on March 7 at FVL. It looks like MLHS, KML, and SLHS will be at the rehearsal at KML on March 21. WLA and LPS may be able to make either - or both! Students at those schools should check with their directors to see which one you will attend.

Students may certainly attend both rehearsals if you wish. Some may not necessarily be involved in their school’s choral concert, and therefore do not have the conflict that others may have.

We are going to try to get the majority of the percussion students at the March 7 rehearsal at FVL. It looks like most will be able to make that rehearsal. In so doing, we will not be transporting all of our marching percussion equipment to the rehearsal at KML on March 21.

What will we do? There will be many people missing at both rehearsals. Basically, the rehearsals will be good sectional time for the wind and guard sections. Up until now, we have only worked in full-group settings. These regionals will give our sections the opportunity to work in smaller groups. We will also have the opportunity for our visual staff to concentrate on more basics of marching and movement, especially since there was not much visual during our February rehearsal.

As stated earlier, both rehearsals will run from 1 - 5 PM. There will be no lunch or supper provided at rehearsal, so individual schools that will be traveling should plan accordingly. Directors, be sure to be clear with your students as to your school’s plans for these sectionals, and also communicate with your parents as to your plans.

Rehearsal Sunday, February 21

Just a few short (and sunny!) days until our next rehearsal. Rehearsal will run from 1:00 - 5:00. This will be primarily a music rehearsal, since there is also a grade school basketball tournament this weekend. There is a chance that the small gym will be available after 3:30.

As always, you can bring LVW payments to the rehearsal. Please remember to include the portion from the statement so that your payment can be applied to the correct account.

You can also bring any forms that may not be in yet. I’m pretty sure that we have everyone’s registration forms, but there are some medical, permission, and conduct forms that still need to be turned in.

We will take time to explain to everyone how the March “regionals” will work. I know there is some question as to which one (or ones) you should attend. After Sunday, that will all be more clear!

See you Sunday!

January Camp - Welcome 2010!

Time to get excited! The 2010 season officially gets under way this coming weekend, January 23 - 24. Rehearsal will begin at 2:00 on Saturday with all LVW members gathering in the auditorium for the welcome from the staff, opening announcements, and an overview of the two-day rehearsal. We will conclude all of our activities by 2:00 PM on Sunday afternoon. Please check with your school’s director/LVW coordinator for travel plans to and from the rehearsal.

Here are a few items that you will need to know for the camp:

Pack a brown-bag supper for Saturday evening. Sunday breakfast/lunch will be provided by LVW. You will not need to bring any money for the meals - they are included in your fees for the year. There will be lemonade/Gatorade/water available. We prefer that you do not drink soda (pop) during LVW rehearsals.

We will be attending Saturday evening worship at Mt. Olive Lutheran Church. Casual clothes are acceptable for this worship service. The service begins at 5:30 PM.

You will need to pack an overnight bag with a change of clothes, overnight gear (Sleeping bag/blanket/pillow/air mattress/etc.), personal items (towel, soap/shampoo, deodorant, etc). We will be sleeping overnight at FVL.

For marching rehearsals, you will need to have comfortable shorts or sweats. You will also need a pair of tennis shoes for use on the gym floor.

Don’t forget your instrument! If you will be using an LVW instrument (horn, baritone/euphonium, tuba), you will need to bring your own mouthpiece. Reed players, please make sure you have a few working reeds for the weekend.

You will be given your music and other LVW equipment on Saturday.

Check back to this page occasionally. There may be more updates before the weekend.

See you Saturday!

2010 Financial Aid Form

It is the desire of the Board of Directors of Lutheran Vanguard of Wisconsin (LVW) that any student who truly wants to participate not be denied membership because of financial hardship. The Board also recognizes the fact that, although the cost may be high for a student to meet, some prioritizing and choices have to be made on the part of the individual and his or her family. Therefore, financial assistance may be available to students who demonstrate a circumstance that makes it difficult, if not impossible, to pay the entire fee for the upcoming summer.

Taking into consideration your blessings from God, please evaluate your family’s situation using this form before entering what you believe is the amount of assistance your student will need to be able to participate in LVW for the 2010 season. The Committee asks you to evaluate this prayerfully and carefully from a Christian standpoint so that we can assist as many students as possible.

The Committee will meet to review all requests. The committee may also contact your school’s financial office for assistance in determining need. You will be notified as soon as a decision has been made.

Please make every effort to return this form to FVL by Wednesday, December 23.

You may access the Financial Assistance Form HERE
