Thanks also to our director staff for their attention to detail and providing our kids with excellent instruction! In just a few short days, they steadily brought the band from a collection of inexperienced students from many schools to the entertaining group we know as Lutheran Vanguard of Wisconsin! The transformation is truly remarkable, and will continue throughout the season in a forward direction.
Last, but certainly not least, thanks go to the members of LVW! Their focus and energy to learn was outstanding. It really is amazing to see how quickly they can improve! The Friday parade in Brillion was a good beginning - a little tentative and manageable, but a good start. The band really started to perform on Saturday and Sunday with entertaining performances that left the audience cheering for more! It will be a great summer, and the improvement from now until July 19 will be extraordinary!
This week will be a rehearsal week as we begin to focus more on the field show. The drill for the first movement was learned this past week, but we have not yet played music on the field. So this week is vitally important to the rest of the summer, as this will be the last dedicated rehearsal week with several days in a row to learn and improve the show.
Rehearsal will begin on Wednesday at 2:00 PM. Note the later starting time, as FVL is hosting the WELS Northern Wisconsin District Convention on Tuesday and Wednesday morning. The rehearsal camp will conclude at 3:00 PM on Saturday afternoon.
All students should bring a BAG SUPPER for Wednesday night. We will be staying in host homes on Wednesday and Thursday night, and will stay at FVL on Friday night. Students should remember to pack everything needed for four days of camp. The packing list for this past week will be a good reference for this week as well, although members will not need to bring performance apparel and shoes since there are no performances this week.
Students should also make sure to take care of themselves before returning to camp. They were instructed to drink plenty of water so they can be fully hydrated. It will be much warmer this week than it was this past week, and more humid as well. Students should also remember especially to bring sunscreen (at least SPF 30), sunglasses, and hats as we will be spending the majority of our time outside on the soccer field.
During the trip to Michigan in July, we will be spending time at the Mill Creek Discovery Park. The park has many activities, including a zip line, climbing wall, and ropes course. Due to the possible risk involved with these attractions, the adventure park requires a waiver of liability to be signed and dated by the student and the parent. We gave each LVW member a form to bring home. Some have already returned them, but they should be brought back this week to rehearsal so we can file them and make sure that we have forms for all members. If your son or daughter lost the form, or if they were absent when the forms were handed out, they are also available at this link: Mill Creek Discovery Park Waiver of Liability Form.
Please remember that we would like all fees to be paid by this time. If special arrangements need to be made, please contact James Neujahr at [email protected].
Many thanks to the students who are participating in our American Flag and Banner detail! So that we are prepared for any emergency that may come up as we travel and perform in parades, we would like you to fill out the LVW Medical Form. Just click the link to access the form, print it and fill it out. Note that the form is two pages long. It should be returned to us before the next parade, which will be Saturday, June 28.
If you have any questions, don't hesitate to email me at the above address (for James Neujahr)..
Thanks all!
