Hello Parents of LVW!
Tara Schlafer and Holly Kubek have volunteered to be the cooks/kitchen coordinators for Band Camp Week and for the mini-camps at FVL in June. June 5 – June 9 / June 14 - June 17 / June 20 & 21. Tara Schlafer has had kids in Vanguard for 6+years, is a Vanguard Alumni and also helped out with Vanguard during the years. She brings a great deal of experience with her. Holly is newer to the LVW Family, starting year 3 and is jumping in with both feet! Tammy Loeck, the cook for the past 7 years, left us great notes! We thank her for the many years of time, effort, and love she put into feeding this hard working band of teens & support staff! We hope to add a few new items to the menu and keep many of the favorites! For band camps, please send a bag lunch for each first day lunch of each week: Tuesday, June 5 / Thursday June 14 / Wednesday June 20. All other meals, along with all beverages, will be provided during camp. Please bring something healthy, such as a sandwich, fresh fruit/vegetables in addition to chips/dessert items. LVW will provide beverages for the meals. We have found from past experience that the best liquids to drink at rehearsals are products such as Gatorade, PowerAde, lemonade and other fruit juices, or plain cold water. Please do not bring POP (soda) to drink on rehearsal days for your lunch. ***NEW*** In order to help with our band camp meals, we are asking all families, local and distant, to consider donating 5 items from the following list. These might be items you already have in your pantry at home, have easy access to or know someone who may also wish to donate to LVW. (i.e.: Grandparents, friends of LVW, alumni). Also call Tara if you have access to any type of meat. We are also looking for volunteers to help prepare and serve the meals for the band members, director and chaperones while at FVL. HERE is a schedule for band camp meals. We thank you for being generous with your time. Please contact Holly Kubek [email protected] to sign up! If you know of any friends of LVW that may be able to help serve a meal or donate an item, please give them this information. We will gladly welcome them into our kitchen and the LVW family! Again, Tara and I want to thank you for entrusting us with the task of feeding your children while they dedicate themselves to the task of “letting their light shine before men..” and that we all may live that mission every day, as we interact with each other and the community in Service to our Lord. Information for the Appleton Flag Day Parade can be found HERE. The Appleton Flag Day Parade will step off at 2:00 PM on Saturday, June 9. Hope to see you there!
LVW is #58 in this parade out of 103 total entries. This is the 62nd annual parade, billed as the nations' largest Flag Day Parade! If you can't be there in person, the parade will be televised live on WFRV TV-5 and WJMN-TV throughout Northeast Wisconsin and Michigan's Upper Penninsula. 2012 marks the 35th consecutive year that LVW (formerly known as "Fox River Valley Lutheran Youth Band") has appeared in the parade. Don't forget to bring your American Flags and wave them proudly! Here is an opportunity for parents, grandparents, friends of LVW, former members, and former “Groupies” to help out Lutheran Vanguard of Wisconsin - Donating items that we use throughout the summer! I know it is impossible for many parents and others to volunteer time or travel with the band, so you may be able to help in other ways.
If anyone is interested in donating any of these items you can contact James Neujahr at [email protected] or his office phone at (920)739-4441 x5160. I in turn will let you know how and when you can get these items to us. There are several attachments referenced in this blog post. They were attached to the email. With the rather pleasant Spring that we have had it is difficult to keep focused on the nearly completed school year. My thoughts keep drifting to Band Camp and other LVW-related tasks. We have come to that time of the year, and it is hard to believe that LVW has just one more rehearsal before the beginning of band camp. As far as the calendar goes, one month from TODAY is our first performance of the 2012 season, as we will be marching in the Brillion Electric Parade on Friday, June 8! This email has a few items for your consideration, and a few forms attached. First, our next rehearsal is this coming Sunday, May 13, from 1 - 5 PM at FVL. For this rehearsal, we may do some work outside, so the members should bring clothes to suit the climate for the day. As always, proper clothing is needed for visual rehearsals (comfortable tennis shoes, sweats, shorts, etc. Please - no jeans for visual rehearsals). A housing form is attached (Word and PDF format). This form is intended for non-FVL families. LVW members will be staying in FVL host homes for six nights this summer. They are June 5, 6, 7, 14, 15, and 20. You may fill out the form and bring along to the upcoming rehearsal, but it must be returned by Tuesday, May 22. The housing form for FVL families will be handed out at school, or may be picked up at rehearsal on Sunday. I have attached the revised 2012 calendar as well. This is the same one that was sent last week with the chaperon forms. Use this calendar, as the link on the LVW website is not the current calendar. We will be taking additional photos for photo-buttons and magnets this coming Sunday. A form is attached. Please, if you would like to purchase these popular items, bring the money or check to the rehearsal. Items are $3 each. Checks should be made out to “ Button Creations LLC“. If you had pictures taken at the April camp, those buttons will be available for pickup this Sunday. If you have not paid for them yet, please remember your money for these items. This email is also a reminder to check your summer calendars for opportunities to help as chaperon, truck driver, or other needed tasks. The email sent last week has the necessary forms for return to me by Friday, May 24. Keep an eye on the LVW website for updates and other information as we near the summer season. Hello LVW. There is nothing earth-shattering here. I just wanted to make sure I could load info on the blog for the new website. Check back often for updates!
